Award-winning (temporary) library for the University of Amsterdam by Ira Koers and Roelof Mulder. That information desk is awesome.

The library features a “red room” where books can be retrieved by the borrower until midnight every day of the week, plus weekends. The containers hold all borrowed books and are categorized for ease of use.

In their own words:
“Studio roelof mulder and bureay ira koers [wanted] to achieve two important things: a space like the white page of a book where the students themselves would play the main role in determining how it is filled in, and in certain areas a domestic atmosphere where the students could also study informally. in one of the study rooms you will find a number of kitchen tables where you can work in groups under the lamp, a chesterfield couch for reading a newspaper, various sitting areas for a short break and special telephone areas in the hallways between the quiet study rooms. The columns in the canteen are transformed into illuminated trees with low energy light bulbs.”
I want to go there.

“Listening Posts” at New Brighton library, Christchurch, NZ.

Exterior of New Brighton library, Christchurch, NZ.
It’s nice that they let that lone tree stay to shade the library.
These photos are actually from Flickr user Canterbury Heritage. The Christchurch library website photos could use an update, as the same fantastic “listening posts” shown above look like this on their website:

Not quite the same impression.
I love this book cover design

From the linear transition to the atmosphere & stratigraphy of the land - it is perfect!
And the contents within - modern cartography! Splendid visuals! Fun facts! As a former geology student, I couldn’t ask for more.
Design by Kelly Blair - found here.
